The most iconic Total War games

This blog is a continuation of my previous blog, in which I briefly talked about the Total War series. In this blog, I'm going to talk about the most significant games in the Total war series.

Perhaps the most significant game in any game series is the very first game. Total War Shogun was released in 2000 and was warmly received by both players and the specialized press. The player controls one of the seven powerful clans of feudal Japan during the Sengoku Jidai period. The main goal of the game was to become the Shogun.

After 2 years, Total War Medieval comes out and in its essence, it is Total War Shougun, but in the setting of medieval Europe. There have also been a lot of gameplay improvements, although the gameplay itself hasn't changed much.

After another 2 years, my favorite game of my childhood, Total War Rome, is released. Starting with this part, the Total War series of games became three-dimensional. There were 21 factions in the game, but at the beginning, the player had only 3 available, and only during the game he could unlock more factions by destroying them. Entering the game for the first time, the player could choose one of the three Roman families of Brutii, Scipii, and Julii. Often, after the passage of the campaign for one of these factions, the player opened a huge number of new ones, although the gameplay for them was not very different.

Global Map in Total War Rome

Traditionally, two years later in 2006, Total War Medieval 2 was released, and it was like Rome with several changes (not always successful). About the next part of Total War Empire, released 3 years later in 2009, as well as about its continuation Total War Napoleon in 2010, I have nothing special to say. Improved graphics, interesting time period, colonial wars. In general, the games are good, but not for me.

In the future, 9 more games will be released in the series, and perhaps the most interesting are Total War Shogun 2 (2010), which is considered the best game in the series, and the amazing Total War Warhammer (2016). About Shogun 2 I have nothing special to tell (because I do not want to repeat myself :)), but there is something to tell about Warhammer Total War. Since the release of the first part of the game, Total War has not changed much, of course there have been changes, but the formula has not changed in any way. The release of Total War Warhammer, though not much, changed the formulas. For the first time in the series, it was decided to move away from historicity and how the setting was chosen Warhammer Fantasy. This decision was incredibly successful and refreshed the series. Instead of the usual historical factions, the player now commanded the orcs, the dead, the demons of chaos and even people!

Perhaps this is where I will end. In general, Total War games are all good, there are no bad games among them, and you can enjoy each of them. Tell us in the comments which games of this series you like. It's time for me to go...
