The most iconic Total War games

This blog is a continuation of my previous blog, in which I briefly talked about the Total War series. In this blog, I'm going to talk about the most significant games in the Total war series.

Perhaps the most significant game in any game series is the very first game. Total War Shogun was released in 2000 and was warmly received by both players and the specialized press. The player controls one of the seven powerful clans of feudal Japan during the Sengoku Jidai period. The main goal of the game was to become the Shogun.

After 2 years, Total War Medieval comes out and in its essence, it is Total War Shougun, but in the setting of medieval Europe. There have also been a lot of gameplay improvements, although the gameplay itself hasn't changed much.

After another 2 years, my favorite game of my childhood, Total War Rome, is released. Starting with this part, the Total War series of games became three-dimensional. There were 21 factions in the game, but at the beginning, the player had only 3 available, and only during the game he could unlock more factions by destroying them. Entering the game for the first time, the player could choose one of the three Roman families of Brutii, Scipii, and Julii. Often, after the passage of the campaign for one of these factions, the player opened a huge number of new ones, although the gameplay for them was not very different.

Global Map in Total War Rome

Traditionally, two years later in 2006, Total War Medieval 2 was released, and it was like Rome with several changes (not always successful). About the next part of Total War Empire, released 3 years later in 2009, as well as about its continuation Total War Napoleon in 2010, I have nothing special to say. Improved graphics, interesting time period, colonial wars. In general, the games are good, but not for me.

In the future, 9 more games will be released in the series, and perhaps the most interesting are Total War Shogun 2 (2010), which is considered the best game in the series, and the amazing Total War Warhammer (2016). About Shogun 2 I have nothing special to tell (because I do not want to repeat myself :)), but there is something to tell about Warhammer Total War. Since the release of the first part of the game, Total War has not changed much, of course there have been changes, but the formula has not changed in any way. The release of Total War Warhammer, though not much, changed the formulas. For the first time in the series, it was decided to move away from historicity and how the setting was chosen Warhammer Fantasy. This decision was incredibly successful and refreshed the series. Instead of the usual historical factions, the player now commanded the orcs, the dead, the demons of chaos and even people!

Perhaps this is where I will end. In general, Total War games are all good, there are no bad games among them, and you can enjoy each of them. Tell us in the comments which games of this series you like. It's time for me to go...

Briefly about Total War.

Today I will briefly talk about a series of strategy games like Total War. The games in this series of games put you in the role of famous historical figures and allow you to plunge into the great wars of the past. This series of games, which appeared in July 2000, has more than 15 games.

Total War has very interesting gameplay, which is divided into two parts, two modes. The first is a turn-based mode with a global map, during which the player, as the leader of one of the factions, must manage his faction: decide what will be built in which city, which troops to hire or not to hire at all, where to send armies, and so on. As soon as the player finishes all of the above, he must complete his turn. The second game mode is the real-time battle. If during the mode with a global map, the player's armies enter the battle, the player will be able to choose one of three options. The first is the automatic calculation of the battle, the second is the retreat and the third is the real-time battle, which is the most interesting. In this mode, the player begins by placing his own army on the battlefield, at the end of which the battle begins in real-time. The one who throws the enemy army to flight will win, everything is simple.

Obviously, over the long history of Total War, they were able to touch on many historical eras, but more about that next time.

Game lore

Game lore is an essential element of any game. Lore is the story of the universe in which the game takes place. He rarely sells the game, but the deep and thoughtful lore is able to attract a fairly large audience to the game. Lore is especially important for RPG games.

Game lore makes the world alive because all living things have a story. Of course, game lore is not important for a number of games. Usually, these are games whose action takes place in our world and therefore does not need lore (such games include GTA, Call of duty, etc.). At the same time, we have many games that benefit greatly from their lore. And I'm going to review a few of them.

When it comes to game lore, I immediately think of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

The Dawn of war series has won a lot thanks to the rich lore of Warhammer 40,000. And the history of this universe is truly immense. A huge number of books, board games, comics, and video games all complement the already rich lore, which makes it even difficult to get into it, but it is still extremely interesting.

Another game with rich lore is The Elder Scrolls.

The first game in the series was released in 1994 and since then the game's lore has become much richer. A huge fantasy world, atypical races for fantasy, Dwemer ruins, assassins guilds, and more makes the universe of the Elder Scrolls deep and interesting to study.

Video game crash of 1983

The gaming industry is doing wonders today. Every year a huge number of hits are released, and cult games such as TES Skyrim, Warcraft 3, Fallout, Gothic, and many others. But few people know that the gaming industry, like these games, might not exist. Back in 1983, the gaming industry was about to die (At least in the USA) ... and it was due to the "Video game crash of 1983"

There were a lot of reasons for this, and these reasons must be analyzed.
The first glut of the game console market. In 1980, the Atari VCS became the most popular second-generation console. Following the success of Atari, a huge number of new manufacturers poured into the market.
Another reason is the quality of the games being released. By 1982, the number of developers was growing rapidly. It would be nice if they weren't so inexperienced. The result was thousands of junk games that undermined the credibility of the gaming industry.
And the third reason I would like to highlight is the game based on the E.T. Imagine the worst game that could have come out in 1982 ... if you imagine a game with terrible gameplay, storyline, and graphics (even by the standards of the time) then you probably guessed it. This game was the beginning of the crisis in the gaming industry. 3.5 million cartridges were returned to Atari. People simply stopped buying games, and profits were falling at an astronomical rate.

To summarize, the main reason for the crisis was the low quality of games, coupled with their number. But the gaming industry got out of that hole. The gaming industry in the United States was rescued by super Nintendo and its NES console, which restored people's confidence in the gaming industry.

A bit about me and what the blog is about.

Hello everyone, my name is Nurullaev Sardorbek. I am a student at Inha University in Tashkent, and you are reading my blog right now. I pondered for a long time about what topic I could write on my blog, and in the end, I decided to write about what I am familiar with - The gaming industry.

The gaming industry is relatively young, but that makes it no less interesting. The gaming industry began in the 70s and has grown from a small market to the mainstream for several decades. And in these 50 years, the gaming industry has come on an incredible journey. I want to write about it on this blog.

If you disassemble my plans for this blog in more detail, then I plan to talk about genres in the gaming industry, their rise and fall, monumental games and their creators, how game franchises were born and died, and so on.

I chose this topic for many reasons. First of all, I am pretty good at it. Secondly, I’m trite to write about it, I would not be able to write about something that I’m not interested in. (although I write this text :)). And on top of that, I think the gaming industry is important to society. While we play video games, we not only take a break from our daily routine but also experience that we could not have experienced otherwise.

I'm sure ... we'll have a good time!
